Just Start

Complete fulfillment is hard to find!

Yesterday was the first day I felt completely fulfilled since being in school. I have done a lot of things that made me happy and content, but yesterday, I felt like it was the start of a new beginning. I simply went to a Women’s Entrepreneurship symposium. This was very fulfilling in that it was the first step taken to pursue entrepreneurship. My ultimate dream and goal in life is to be a successful entrepreneur. 

Yesterday, I also realized that I am a very unconventional person. I like that about myself because it helps me to always think outside of the box. Again, because I am entrepreneur-minded, I am never afraid to be different and stand out. A few ways I am unconventional is through my dreams and desires. Coming to college, I wanted to be a Pediatrician who owned my own private practice, along with owning and teaching at a dance studio, while also having a household full of children (If I told you how many, you might think I’m insane.). To me, this idea was perfectly normal. To my friends, this idea was unplanned and scattered. At that moment, I realized that there was something interestingly different about me. Why weren’t my friends getting it? Why did it sound so strange to them? ….Because it’s not conventional! Most people don’t choose the major I chose and try to be a entrepreneur of three majorly different businesses.

There are always new and better ways to pursue dreams. As a Christian, I believe God orders my steps, so the way I pursue my dreams will always be aligned with His plan. If you do it God’s way, you can never go wrong. Since my initial plan to be a Pediatrician, it has changed. As mentioned, now I want to own fashion lines, makeup lines, and perfume lines…along with a dance studio and a household full of children. I used to try to place myself in a box, because in college, they heavily enforce picking a path and sticking to it. I have NEVER thought that way. My mind does not even function like that. Even as a child, I had many tasks and responsibilities that I loved to do. I was passionate about my passion. This passion to be a boss in many avenues started when I was in middle school. I taught dance to girls ages 3-18 at my middle and high school and my dance studio, danced since I was 6 years old, coached cheerleading to girls 3-13, sang on the Praise Team and in the choir, sang in Ensemble, was cheerleading captain for all four years of high school, served as a representative, Secretary, Vice President, and President in Student Government all before my Senior year, and designed a dress and had it made for my Senior Homecoming. I did not realize that I was “doing too much” until someone brought it to my attention. I just considered it to be things I loved to do. I cherished the opportunities to make a difference and impact other people.

After all of that and then coming to college and being in leadership positions, it was confirmed that I wanted to own my own. How could I not use God’s given talent and ability to make a difference? After leaving the Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium, I felt revived and ready to step into the real world and take a chance. It was not only empowering to see a room full of women pursuing fulfilled dreams, but it was motivating.

My Next steps:

1. Form my squad-Who you surround yourself with determines how far you will go. In life, it’s all about networking. I actually found myself a group a girls who fervently pursued their businesses and goals to be an entrepreneur. We are working on staying in contact and forming a mutually, beneficial relationship.
2. Change habits-Being that I am going to be in the “beauty industry”, I have to make sure my habits align with my goals. I am doing that by changing my eating habits, sleeping earlier, and following through with my written out goals. I have not yet mastered this. Literally the moment I decided to do better, all I see is SALE! SALE! SALE! As a college student, sales could be a major determining factor. However, I have to ask myself, “What is my end goal?”.
3. Educate myself-I am in the process of buying books and subscribing to magazines that will educate me on business and entrepreneurial skills. Until then, I use my trusted, long-time companion, Pinterest! (If you know me, you know I am obsessed with Pinterest.)
4. Start somewhere-This summer I have the pleasure of doing a Fashion Internship at a major company in New York City!!! This is the first step to pursuing my fashion designing. I am excited and look forward to working with major designers and learning all about the business.
